Holiday Punch Bowl.

The roots of the modern day fruit juice and Ginger ale punch recipe go back over 4 centuries.   The word punch is derived from the East Indian word "panchan" meaning "five" which relates to the 5 ingredients in the original recipe  invented by British sailors in the 1600's;  something sweet, something sour, something bitter, something weak and something strong.

The original recipe is believed to be

1 part Sugar, 2 parts bitters, 3 parts lemon juice, 4 parts beer and 5 parts wine or brandy.

Refined Punch

Refined Stone's Holiday Punch

1qt Pomegranate Juice

2 cups fresh orange juice strained

2 cups lime juice strained

One bottle Proseco

Sliced Limes & Oranges

Superfine sugar to taste

Combine the juices and add the sugar to taste.  Chill the liquid in the refrigerator.   When ready to serve pour into a punch bowl and add the Proseco.    Add slices of limes & oranges.

Use a chilled Marble Pastry Board   under your punch bowl to keep the punch chilled without having to use ice which can water down the punch as it melts.
